On-demand box Series

The On-Demand Box blender series is conceived for all those applications in which the emulsion production have to be carried out on-site (On-Demand Emulsion). The On-Demand Emulsion is produced using fuels with excise duty already paid, immediately upstream the combustion system and in function of the flowrate required.
The On-Demand Box by Emulsion Power are a cost-effective and easy-installation solution to obtain an emissions abatement and, meanwhile, a significant fuel saving in various applications: industrial plants, boilers, generators and marine engines.
Three series of On-Demand Box esxist:

  • On-Demand Box VEGreen – for on-demand emulsion production based on vegetable oils and other fuels obtained from renewable resources.
  • On-Demand Box D – for on-demand emulsion production based on Diesel fuel
  • On-Demand Box H – for on-demand emulsion production based on Fuel Oils

The On-Demand Emulsion, in comparison with the Stable Emulsion, can be produced introducing higher amount of water and significantly decreasing the amount of the specific additive (ACL Series) used. In particular, the water quantity can reach the 25% by weight, while the amount of additive, depending on the application, is normally in the range 0.2 – 1 % by weight.

Thanks to the Emulsion Power technology (derived from R&D activitiy of ACL Ltd) also the On-Demand Emulsion is a W/O type. For this reason, when introduced in the combustion system, the emulsion doesn’t contain free water. Every water particle indeed is surrounded by the fuel, by means of the interface created by the additive. In this way the successive combustion can be optimized with the final effect of reducing the emissions and the fuel consumption.

However, for those application in which it is more suitable, Emulsion Power can provide a system based on O/W technology. This technology has to be preferred for the application on large boilers currently fueled with Fuel Oil (On-Demand Box H).
The main characteristic of these products series is that the process can be both continuous or cyclic (batch) dependingly on the application and the required product amount, assuring the maximum flexibility in respect with the client specific needs.
Based on our experience we offer some already engineered system size, however the detailed design will be reviewed depending on specific operating conditions.
Similarly to the Stable Box series these blenders are designed in function of the fuel type to be processed and with the same approach. Even if in this case the emulsion stability is not the objective, the base design philosophy is the same: quality of the components, total control and monitoring of the process.
The On-Demand Box are “turnkey”, with the possibility of a full service contract subscription which includes maintenance and technical assistance.

These blenders are extremely compact, can be easily integrated in already existing systems and normally requires very few modifications to the current plant layout or to the combustion system. It is sufficient to create the connections to the storage tanks, to the combustion system, to the electric grid and to a computer for starting the production in very little time.
Emulsion Power will help and support the client in each phase of the project of the installation site and successively, at the moment of the start up, in the personnel training. The Emulsion Power technical team will survey the start up operations to optimize the production process parameters accordingly with the client specific needs.
The production is automatically managed by the On-Demand Box and it will be sufficient to monitor the state of the process through the software provided with the blender, the tank levels and output data to easily manage the supplying of the products (additive and fuel), that is almost the only activity that operators should do periodically.
The maintenance activity required to the operators is minimal.
There are also additional functionalities, provided on request, which can simplify further the production management.

VEGreen-box series

The On-Demand Box VEGreen series are developed and designed to produce On-Demand Emulsion based on vegetable oils or animal fats, so fuels obtained from renewable sources. This kind of emulsion can be used in place of the original fuel in the same application, in particular in internal combustion engines in cogeneration plants, without significant modification to the current plant.

The On-Demand Box VEGreen blenders are able to produce an high performance emulsion, characterized by the absence of free water, using a minimal percent amount of additives (ACF Series). Thanks to the use of our technology, an economic saving and a drastic reduction of the emissions will be achieved.

Currently one size of these blenders has been engineered. It has a productivity from 150 to 1200 L/h. This volume of emulsion is suitable for instance for cogeneration plants up to 4 MWe.

The On-Demand Box VEGreen 1200 is an extremely compact blender, built inside a skid with dimensions (WxHxD) 2.85×1.87×1.25 m3. The process is continuous, introducing successively the oil, the additive and the water

Another version of the blender exists. It is designed for a batch processing, solution recommended for those plants in which the fuel preheating tank is very small. In this case, the cyclic process philosophy is more suitable, optimized on the basis of the refilling timings and volumes of this tank.

So the blender configuration varies in function of the process type, however all the models share the same design philosophy which has as main target the emulsion quality. Fot this reason, Emulsion Power take care of every detail during the design process: sizing and selection of the components, total control of material fluxes, regulation and automation with the PLC.

Besides, the flexibility is a peculiar characteristic of this blender series. Every blender of the VEGreen series can use different fuels: on request, Emulsion Power can provide a multi-fuel blender, optimized for the use of different fuels. This is very important for those applications in which the plant is fueled alternatively with different fuels depending on the market availability.

The On-Demand Box VEGreen series models, depending on the process type (continuous or batch), are equipped with a suitable combination of dynamic mixers, each of them specifically designed for the use of vegetable oils. In particular, the Emulsion Power dynamic mixers have been designed for producing W/O emulsions. Their peculiar characteristic is to create high shear stresses on the circulating fluid so that the water droplets can be finely reduced in order to achieve a high quality of the emulsion and meanwhile to assure a high energy efficiency. As consequence, the mechanical internal parts have been specifically designed and optimized for the use of vegetable oils.

The blender operation is fully automatic, thanks to the several level transmitters, the inverters through which the pumps are controlled and the pressure and temperature probes installed. These blenders are equipped with a heating system to regulate the emulsion temperature in order to optimize the production based on the requirements of the combustion system. The operator can monitor remotely or on-site, the production state, thanks to the monitoring software provided with the blender.

On-Demand Diesel series

The On-Demand Box D blenders are specifically developed for the production of on-demand emulsions with Diesel as base fuel, with high water content and using a small amount of additive (ACD series).
The design of these blenders results from the Stable Box D, so they share the same Emulsion Power technology to produce W/O emulsions. The most important difference has to be found in the process type, in this case continuous since the emulsion is burned immediately after the production. With these blenders is possible to inject an amount of water up to 25% by weight, assuring consequently a significant reduction of the pollutant emissions and economic benefits.
These blenders are built inside movable skids of various dimensions, extremely compact and consequently they can easily integrated within already existing plants.
The On-Demand Box D series models are equipped with static and dynamic mixers (double stage), specifically designed for the Diesel processing. In particular, the Emulsion Power dynamic mixers have been designed for producing W/O emulsions. Their peculiar characteristic is to create high shear stresses on the circulating fluid so that the water droplets can be finely reduced in order to achieve a high quality of the emulsion and meanwhile to assure a high energy efficiency. As consequence, the mechanical internal parts have been specifically designed and optimized for the use of Diesel.

On-demand box HFO Series

The On-Demand Box D blenders are specifically developed for the production of on-demand emulsions with Fuel Oil as base fuel, with high water content and using a small amount of additive (ACH series).

The design of these blenders results from the Stable Box H, so they share the same Emulsion Power technology to produce W/O emulsions. The most important difference has to be found in the process type, in this case continuous since the emulsion is burned immediately after the production. With these blenders is possible to inject an amount of water up to 25% by weight, assuring consequently a significant reduction of the pollutant emissions and economic benefits.
These blenders are built inside movable skids of various dimensions, extremely compact and consequently they can easily integrated within already existing plants.
In particular, the On-Demand Box H blenders are characterized by a complete insulation of the main processing line and are equipped with a heating system due to the high viscosity of the fuel oil. The total control of the system is assured by the various probes and sensors, which transmit the information in real time and allow the automation system to manage properly the production.

The On-Demand Box H series models are equipped with static and dynamic mixers (double stage), specifically designed for the Fuel Oil processing. In particular, the Emulsion Power dynamic mixers have been designed for producing W/O emulsions. Their peculiar characteristic is to create high shear stresses on the circulating fluid so that the water droplets can be finely reduced in order to achieve a high quality of the emulsion and meanwhile to assure a high energy efficiency. As consequence, the mechanical internal parts have been specifically designed and optimized for the use of fuel oils.

These blenders are available also with O/W technology for the production of the emulsion based on crude oil, for the use on large industrial boilers. The use of the O/W emulsion allow the use with boilers designed for Diesel, since the viscosity of the resulting emulsion is suitable for these combustion systems. Besides, solution recommended for those plants in which the fuel preheating tank is very small, Emulsion Power can provide batch processing solutions to better fit to charge-discharge cycle of this tank.
